Mr. Electric®, Zane Smith Highlight Importance of National Electrical Safety Month

Mr. Electric®, a Neighborly® company, leads the charge with comprehensive electrical installation services for homes and businesses.

WACO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As National Electrical Safety Month kicks off, Mr. Electric®, a Neighborly® company, is dedicated to home and business electrical services and the importance of electrical safety within households. To highlight this message, Mr. Electric recently teamed up with NASCAR® driver Zane Smith for a ride-along to conduct a comprehensive electrical Home Safety Check.

The ride-along aimed to shed light on the significance of electrical safety in homes.

"I've always been passionate about safety, both on and off the track," said Smith. "Working alongside Mr. Electric to promote electrical safety aligns with my values, and I'm honored to be a part of it."

A recent survey conducted by Mr. Electric revealed concerning statistics regarding electrical safety practices among homeowners. Shockingly, only 14% of U.S. homeowners surveyed have implemented whole-home surge protection, leaving their devices vulnerable to power surges. Whole-home surge protection is required on all newly built homes as of 2020, according to the National Electrical Code (NEC). Additionally, just 23% of surveyed homeowners have invested in backup generators, essential for maintaining safety and comfort during power outages.

Joel Worthington, president of Mr. Electric, emphasized the necessity of prioritizing electrical safety measures.

"Our collaboration with 2022 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion Zane Smith emphasizes our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of homeowners nationwide," Worthington remarked. "By having electrical home safety checks conducted, homeowners can have potential electrical hazards identified and addressed proactively."

The survey also unveiled that 80% of U.S. homeowners acknowledge the importance of carbon monoxide detectors. Mr. Electric explains that regular electrical panel inspections and updates are an important part of an electrical safety check. They recommend panel upgrades every 10 years to mitigate the risk of outages, incidents, and fires.

"Protecting yourself against electrical hazards goes beyond safeguarding equipment – it's about safeguarding lives," said Worthington. "We urge homeowners to take proactive measures, such as replacing worn extension cords, installing childproof outlets, and ensuring the functionality of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors."
